Where is design going?
Design is in every single part of life. It is always changing and evolving, but it is constant and will always be in high demand. Design is being welcomed with a “seat at the table” in a much larger capacity than it ever has in the past.
How can design education be more relevant?
Design education needs to work with the local companies and agencies to give students a real world experience like never before. Involving the local design community is critical to developing that relationship. Direction in assisting students in finding their career path.
What are the future skillsets designers need to learn now?
Collaboration with marketing, leadership in the creative fields (to move them from junior designer to creative directors in their career), business development and selling to clients, presentation training.
What should a design school do to prepare students for transdisciplinary work?
Develop projects that work across different disciplines including traditional/digital marketing, photo/video, possibly engineering, etc AND include local professionals in the projects to help guide and mentor the students.
