Where is design going?

Design is a life-long skill and does not have to have a physical artifact as an outcome. I use design to build high performance teams with external stakeholders.  Being able to visualize in multiple dimensions, work with diverse teams of experts and take into account multiple variables over time are vital skills for future leaders.

How can design education be more relevant?

Work on both abstract and real-world projects and span boundaries of traditional mediums and disciplines.  Also integrate business practice.  All designers are entrepreneurs in charge of their professional trajectory and portfolios.

What are the future skillsets designers need to learn now?

DRAWING BY HAND because it gives you time to think.

What should a design school do to prepare students for transdisciplinary work?

Rigorous liberal arts classes to build intellectual curiosity, writing and analytical skills.

What should a design school do to forward equity and inclusion?

Summer programs in underserved high schools.
